2011 hair trend – the ballerina inspired bun

22 September, 2011

With the popularity of Black Swan there has been a bit of a ballerina revival on the catwalk and high street.
Natalie Portman’s turn in the Darren Aronofsky’s thriller made us all want to put back on our ballet pumps, tutus and wrap cardigans and copy some of the films Rodarte costumes. The high street was then filled with ballet inspired pieces and we were all able to channel our inner ballerina.
It is not just clothes that are having a moment, however; there are also beauty trends and hairstyles inspired by ballet. If there is one look that sums up the ballet trend it has to be the ballerina bun, as seen on the Giles autumn/winter 2011 catwalk as well as a number of celebrities like Kirsten Dunst, Whitney Port, Diane Kruger, Jennifer Lopez and Heidi Klum. They have all been seen working the up-do style on the red carpet.

It is a perfect sleek look for when you need a bit of extra glamour in your life, or just want to look really smart at work. It’s perfect for weddings and parties as it looks uber glam and stylish. It’s also very versatile as you can have a loose bun or tighter sleek bun.
What’s more it is also really easy to achieve the hairstyle with ghd flat irons. The first thing you need to do is wash and blow dry your hair. In order to make your hair really smooth just run your ghd flat irons through your hair in order to make sure it is truly kink free. Then pull your hair back into a ponytail and pin your hair into a bun by twisting it round the hair band. If you have thin hair or want a bit of extra oomph to your bun you can use a hair donut which is a bit of foam in the shape of donut and adds extra volume.
Once you have covered your hair band and created a good shape, you need to pin it in place. Finish by spritzing it with hairspray so it stays in place; a perfect and neat ballerina bun!
