Harrington: Here are 10 top shows for January

1 January, 2012

January can be the cruelest month for the live music fan.

The local concert scene, so vibrant during the prior 11 months, always seems to quiet down at the start of the new year. Few big-name acts tour through the Bay Area, or anywhere else, in January.

This year’s no different. The heavy action really won’t pick up until mid-February — when the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform Feb. 17-18 at Oracle Arena, followed by the 20th anniversary Noise Pop festival (Feb. 21-26).

But even in this relative downtime, there are plenty of worthwhile shows taking place — you just have to know where to look. Here are 10 recommendations.

1. Jack Jones: This 75-year-old vocalist has excellent references.

Preoccupied With Occupy

30 December, 2011

My poor husband, the Norwegian Artist, spent the entire afternoon downloading a graphic design and photo software program to his computer, only to find that, in order to open the program and actually use it, he needed another download.

But that’s okay, because the second download was free, according to the big button alongside its picture that said FREE. Only it wasn’t free; it just sort of looked that way. I’m sure there’s more to it, but the Norwegian wasn’t in one of his evocative, expressive moods.

This Week in Panels: Week 119

30 December, 2011

Hey, it’s the first 4L post of 2012, as if that means anything! Since it’s the first of the year, I might as well go over the gist of what ThWiP is all about. Every week, me and some other guys (and you too if you’re ever up for it) take all the new comics we’ve read and sum it up in one panel. It could be a pretty funny line relating to the overall situation. It could be an info dump of blatant exposition. Whatever.

This week I’m joined by Space Jawa and Was Taters. David’s sti

The famous tourist attractions in Salisbury

17 December, 2011

Choosing one of Wiltshire hotels, think carefully if you want to be in downtown close to the Cathedral or the nightlife, or if you prefer the quiet location and a country that still has easy access to tourist sites. This place is a great opportunity to enjoy the pre-Roman archaeology and some world famous tourist attractions.

The Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum was built during the thirteenth century and is located in front of the Salisbury cathedral. You can look here at the largest Stonehenge art gallery where an interactive exhibition takes you through the history of one of Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages. Get more info…

Movie Review – Shame

16 December, 2011

When you watch a trailer and see that the film stars Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan, you can instantly draw some conclusions. What conclusions I hear you say? Well, first off they are two of the best actors currently on the scene, and it’s very, very unlikely that they would both pick a dud of a script to be a part of. So safe to say you can at least think the film is going to be damn good, or at least solid. The second thing you can draw from their involvement is that it will most likely be in the art house genre.
