Grapevine: Eminem passes 1 billion YouTube views

Eminem is now YouTube royalty. The Detroit rapper has joined Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber as only the third artist to cross the 1 billion-views mark on YouTube. The next artist who will cross the billion-view threshold on YouTube is Rihanna , Famecount.com’s Daniel Dearlove predicts. Credit Em and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” which has racked up more than 292 million views, making it the fourth most-watched video in YouTube history. Meanwhile, Eminem’s official Facebook page has logged more than 28,750,000 “likes,” putting him within spitting distance of Gaga’s 28,775,000. Dearlove tells Billboard.com that Em is on pace to soon dethrone Gaga as Facebook’s top living celebrity.

Aretha Franklin has responded to Fantasia’s comments that she felt snubbed by not being invited to perform in the tribute to Franklin at this year’s Grammys. “I was sorry to hear that Fantasia was upset because she did not get the opportunity to participate in my Grammy tribute this year,” Franklin said in a statement released Tuesday. “I recall that in the past, Fantasia participated in both my MusicCares Person of the Year Tribute and my United Negro College Fund Tribute. Fantasia is still young in the business and although we all love and appreciate her, she must understand that in this business of show business she will not always get to participate in everything she would like to participate in.I’m sure it was not an intentional omission.I will see Fantasia over the summer here in Detroit.”

Phish will perform at the DTE Energy Music Theatre June 3, promoter Live Nation announced Tuesday. Tickets, $60 and $45, go on sale at noon March 12.

It’s official: Slaughterhouse will perform at the Royal Oak Music Theatre March 24. The group will be joined by its fellow Shady Records label mate Yelawolf . Tickets, $20, go on sale at noon Friday.

Comic book creator and animation writer Dwayne McDuffie , a Detroit native, died Tuesday of unknown causes, according to the Associated Press. McDuffie was co-founder of Milestone Media, which put minority heroes at the forefront of comics. He also wrote for runs of “Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight,” the Fantastic Four and the Justice League of America, and penned animated features such as the just-released “All Star Superman,” “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths” and animated TV series “Static Shock” and “Ben 10: Alien Force.”
