Judge Rejects Nelson’s Plea Bargain
– Country singer Willie Nelson could be headed to jail after a west Texas judge rejected a plea deal in his pot possession case, TMZ reported Thursday.
Nelson was expected to get a $500 fine for pleading no contest to misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after he was busted for allegedly having weed on his tour bus at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas, last November.
Originally the 78-year-old was charged with marijuana possession but the charge was reduced as part of a plea deal arranged in June.
Prosecutor Kit Bramblett had actually joked that Nelson should have to sing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” for the court as part of the deal but Judge Becky Dean-Walker nixed the suggestion.
Now Dean-Walker is saying Nelson is receiving special treatment with the paltry fine and should still face the initial drug possession charge brought against him — that could carry a jail sentence of up to one year.
