Society Confidential: Levi Stubbs III and Koko Johnson tie the knot
On New Year’s Eve, Levi Stubbs III , dashing son of Levi Stubbs , the late, velvet-voiced Four Tops lead singer, hosted an intimate dinner party in his Detroit home with a very specific purpose — to propose to his live-in girlfriend, former supermodel Koko Johnson . Levi prepared an elaborate dinner for Koko, her two sons from a previous marriage, Zavier , 9, and Soren , 6, her mom, Barbara Johnson (who was in on the plan) and his mom, Clineice Stubbs . “After we ate this huge dinner that I cooked myself, I got down on one knee and did my thing,” said Levi. Last week, Levi and Koko got married on a remote beach in Costa Rica. “I actually met Koko when she was a kid,” Levi III said. “We’ve been a couple, a family, for five years now. I just figured it was time to give it that official family stamp.”
Where will Aretha Franklin ‘s first concert be as she recovers from last December’s surgery? She told the AP that she would perform on May 28 at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Buffalo, N.Y., but it’s possible her first show will be a rescheduled Radio City Music Hall concert that might be as soon as early May. Local philanthropist Maggie Allesee was asked to step aside by security at Judge Damon Keith ‘s annual Soul Food Luncheon at the Federal Courthouse on Monday after she kept setting off the alarm. Seems her bling was making the sensors whistle. “I don’t mind the security search or the long lines to get food at all,” Maggie said. “Damon is a remarkable man, and any inconvenience is worth the deserved tribute.” Gov. Rick Snyder was a surprise guest, courtesy of U.S. District Court Chief Judge Gerald Rosen . “Did you get some black-eyed peas and ribs?” the good judge asked Snyder from the podium. “Well, just sit back for a minute, I have a few more people I want to call up to speak before I get to you.” Wonder if the guv would have been as welcome today after his “nuclear bomb” budget hit on Thursday?
“Detroit 1-8-7″ writer/producer Mick Betancourt tweeted this intriguing message last week about the ABC crime drama’s March 8 episode: “I cannot tell you amazing the #detroit187 episode is going to be in 2 weeks. Somebody is going to get naked. Somebody big will die!!!!!” At the same time? Whoa.
